All Otis mattresses are made from 100% woven polyester fabric.

Comfort & Durability Philosophy
Otis mattresses are engineered to be as comfortable as they are durable. The Moonshadow is designed to be as comfortable as a traditional upholstered sofa when used as a couch, while remaining flexible enough to avoid painful pressure points for the occasional or every-night sleeper. As a supplier of pressure management therapy mattresses to the health care industry, Otis Bed is uniquely qualified to make these claims — the Moonshadow has also helped many of our customers with fibromyalgia by providing support while reducing pressure points.
Unlike cotton-based futons, Otis uses highly resilient high-density foam (1.8 lb per cubic foot or better). Lower density foams (1.2–1.4 lb) found in other products reduce lifespan and performance and can develop dips or sags over time.

Important Notes on Thickness & Quality
Thickness can be misleading in the mattress industry. Many mattresses are rounded or overestimated for marketing purposes. Otis mattresses use true boxed edges, making thickness measurable and consistent.
Thicker isn't always better. More important than thickness is the quality of materials inside. Otis mattresses are built with more ingredients than their finished size suggests — a "6" mattress is really made with 12" of material, an "8" mattress with 14" or more — which is why the advertised finished thickness holds up far longer than other futons. In effect, it's as if Otis mattresses are pre-broken-in; this is their signature manufacturing process, allowing the Moonshadow to maintain its shape and comfort for 10–15 years.
Grip Strips Recommendation
Any futon frame will operate more easily with a thin, lower-quality mattress. However, for a more comfortable sitting or sleeping surface that lasts longer, the Moonshadow will need to be worked in — Super Grip Rolls or Super Grip Strips are required to keep the mattress properly positioned on the frame. Once broken in through regular use, the mattress becomes easier to manipulate and will outlast lower-quality futon mattresses.
Cover & Thickness Guidelines
Standard futon covers are designed for 6" mattresses. The Moonshadow's true 8" thickness requires a 7"–8" depth designer cover, depending on the manufacturer (ask one of our futon experts for guidance). Using an undersized cover will alter comfort and make folding more difficult.
For families with pets, small children, or allergies, we also recommend a Futon Mattress Protector, which is waterproof and bug-proof.
