Futon Cover Sizes, Construction, FAQ's, and Return Policies.

Here's a letter we just received from a customer, and this is what having a nice cover on your futon is all about:

09/12/06
message: I've received my cover and it's beautiful. It looks great in the sitting area of the office. The fabric gives the room a rich look. I'm really enjoying the new cover.

So far, I've had two customers in the office and the first thing they noticed was the futon cover. Its a wonderful conversation piece also.

Thank you,
Lynda

Most all of our covers shown are in a "Bi-Fold" layout. If you have an "A"-frame futon, please let us know when you are ordering.

Ordering a Futon Cover is fairly simple. About 75% of Queen Covers ordered are returned for a Full size cover. To save yourself the time and expense of having to return your cover, just follow our directions below to measure it. All covers on our site are made to fit a 6" to 8" thick Futon Mattress. If your mattress is thicker, or thinner, it may need to be custom ordered. Just enter a note when ordering, telling us the thickness of your futon mattress, and we'll contact you with any details and extra charges.  Changing the depth of the cover does make it custom, and non returnable, so please order a swatch first to make sure you like the color, or print.

Many customers call us telling us that they have received the wrong size cover, when it arrives, because they ordered it to fit a 9" mattress, and the package says 7" corner.

The best thing to do is to place the order, and make a note telling us exactly how thick your mattress is, and we will contact you if the cover needs to be customized, and to get your approval for the extra charge of $5.00 to $10.00.

Most all of the covers you see can be customized to fit any thickness of mattress.  Only the least expensive covers, which only come in full size can't be customized.

How to Measure a Futon Mattress.
There are lots of ways to do this but this is the most simple. Pretend that you are going to put your futon mattress, flat, in a box to ship it. You want it to fit somewhat snug, but not get squished. Then just measure the length, width, and height of the mattress.

Here is a common question that we get every day. "What is Piping?" Piping, or Welting, is a bead of the same, or a coordinating fabric that goes around the edges of the futon cover, and gives it a more finished, or formal look. It is not needed, and is expensive, but quite a few people like the look of it.
Below, you'll find all the common sizes that futon covers are made in. Scroll down the page and you'll see a variety of ways that different manufacturers make futon covers. If you have any questions, call us at 1-888-6-Futons during our business hours, and we'll be glad to help you.

Print All Over
Just as it sounds, the print is on the top, edges, and bottom of the cover. With this type of cover, you can flip or rotate the futon mattress, and not have to turn the futon cover.
Window Pane, or Window Panel.
The print is only on the top, and doesn't cover the whole top. There is about a 10" border on each side, and the back, and edges are also the solid color. In this case, the fabric is only 54" wide, and the stripes needed to be vertical.
End Cap or Window Panel 2 Sides.
This is like the Window Pane or Window Panel, but the print wraps all the way around the top, back, front and rear edges of the futon cover.
Print Top or Inlay
Here, the top side of the cover is the print, and the sides, and back are a coordinating fabric. This type can be flipped and all you would see is the Tan fabric. Then you could use pillows with the same print, for a nice change. Some manufacturers call this Inlay and others call it Print Top. Call for specific information about the cover that you are ordering.
Solid Back or Inlay
Here's a tough one to photograph, but it's pretty easy to understand. The print is on the top, and edges, and there is a solid color on the back panel. It's just like the Print Top, except the solid fabric would be the top, and the print would be everywhere else. Some manufacturers call this Solid Back, and some call it Inlay. Call for specific information about the cover you are ordering.
A Frames or Love Seat Covers
Downtown
Here's one final note. If you need a printed cover for a Love Seat, or an A-Frame type of futon, you need to specify that, or call us with your order. Depending on the direction of the print that you want, it may need to be made specially, or, for example, you could have sailboats, on their sides, when you put the cover on.

1. How much are your covers?

High quality covers range from $29.00 in full sizes, to between $69.00 and $129.00 for most designer prints. Some premium prints are higher. Queen sizes are usually $10.00 more.

2. What is your return policy on covers?

There are no extra shipping charges added on futon covers delivered to the Lower 48 States. If you're not happy with your standard sized Full or Queen cover, or Protect A Bed, you may send it back unused, (at your expense), within 15 days for exchange or for in store credit only.  If any type of special shipping is requested, required or was used, (Overnight, 2nd Day Air, International, Etc.), the customer must pay for that shipping on the exchange as well.  Our original shipping charges will be deducted from any exchange or in store credit, and there is a 10% to 20% Restocking Charge on any returned cover.  Also, items returned for exchange must be in the original packaging, and must be in new and resalable condition. It can not have been washed, have any fragrance, pet, or human hair, or be soiled in any way. If it is, we will not exchange it, and you will have to pay for shipping if you want us to ship it back to you.

This excludes custom sizes, or things which may make a cover non returnable. See # 3 Below.

If you place an order, and we have already contacted the manufacturer to place the order, either by phone, fax, or E-mail, and you cancel your order, you will be charged a $5.00 cancellation fee to pay for our time in placing your order, and the time needed to cancel your order, and issue a refund. Please make sure that you want to place an order, before you actually place an order. Any changes to an order which we've already placed, will incur a $5.00 charge as well.

To return an item, you must first send E-mail to us at customerservice@futons.net to obtain a Return Authorization number and the instructions on where to return the cover to.  It may go back to the manufacturer, or to our warehouse.

3. What makes a cover or item non exchangeable or custom?

Non exchangeable items include Custom Sizes or Items, Custom Thicknesses, Twin sizes, Love seats, Chairs, Ottomans, Kings, Covers made to fit other than a 6" to 8" futon mattress, Pillows Pillow covers, and Cut Yardage are Custom orders, and are not exchangeable. Also, items with piping or cording, custom backings, window treatments, cubes, skirts, and any other special items are non exchangeable.  Returnable items are Standard Full or Queen Covers from most manufacturers.  There are items with special terms on the item.  Also, items returned for exchange must be in the original packaging, and must be in new and resalable condition. It can not have been washed, have any fragrance, pet, or human hair, or be soiled in any way. If it is, we will not exchange it, and you will have to pay for shipping if you want us to ship it back to you.

Please ask when ordering to make sure your cover is exchangeable. If there is a problem or a defect, on our part, or the manufacturers part, it will be corrected for no charge, but the order cannot be cancelled. If there is a problem due to inaccurate measurements or sizes given by the customer, the customer will be responsible for extra charges for shipping, and corrections. Please order a swatch before ordering any cover or custom item, since it is the best way to know if the colors you are seeing are accurate.

4. Do you send swatches?

You can order fabric samples on most covers for between $1.00, for a tiny scrap, and $5.00 for a larger swatch. If there is not option to order a swatch, then that fabric or manufacturer does not offer swatches. With credit card fees, postage, and handling, we break even on swatches, but it's the only way to know exactly what the fabric looks, and feels like. We don't send swatches of our economy covers, because the dye lots are always different, and chances are the cover you order, will be slightly different than the swatch. If you call us with questions about a fabric, we will pull the swatch, and describe the colors, texture, feel, and cleaning care of the fabric to you. We will also have you measure the length and width of your futon, as well as the thickness, to assure a perfect fit. We've found that this personal interaction gives us less than a 1% rate of return.

5. Is there a guarantee on your covers?

Yes, our high quality covers are guaranteed for between 1 year and Lifetime, depending on the manufacturer, and the fabric. This of course excludes misuse, abuse, and improper care or use, and normal wear and tear. Covers will be repaired or replaced at the option of the manufacturer, however you may be responsible for shipping charges depending on the length of time it's been used.

6. How do I know the colors I see on my monitor will match the cover I order?

We've spent a lot of time and effort to find the right type of light to take the pictures of the swatches you see. Much time has also been spent adjusting the colors prior to putting them on our site. With all that said, yes, monitors are still all different, and the best way to be sure is to order a swatch prior to ordering.

7. Do your covers have the print on one side or on the front and back?

Most covers can be made in many different ways for different prices. When you click on a cover, it will tell you how that cover is made, and give you a link back to this page, where you can see how it's made above.

8. Do your covers come with Zippers or Velcro?

Most of our covers come with a full 3 sided zipper. This makes it much easier to put on, or take off your cover for cleaning or changing. Twin Sizes, Chairs, or Ottomans come with a one or 2 sided zipper.

9. How are covers shipped, how much does it cost, and how soon will it arrive?

There is no extra charge for shipping covers via UPS, DHL, FedEx, or US mail, to the lower 48 states. There are exceptions. We won't ship Pillows, Bolsters, or Fabric Yardage for free, unless they are ordered with a cover. Most orders ship within 1 to 5 business days, and arrive in about 2 weeks.  Custom sizes, or options, (like piping), take 2 to 3 weeks to arrive. Depending on your needs, it is possible depending on the cover and the manufacturer to get covers quicker if you are willing to pay extra for faster shipping. We can ship most items to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, Virgin Islands, Canada, P.O. Boxes, APO's, or FPO's, but there are normally extra shipping charges, so send an E-mail first with your address so we can get you a shipping quote.  Some of our manufacturers will us USPS, which can be very reasonable for shipping, but others require that we ship FedEx or UPS which can be much more expensive.  Please note that for International shipments we may quote a shipping price, and then 2 or 3 months later there may be a bill for extra Tariffs or Duties.  The customer is responsible for any extra charges, duties or tariffs due.

We hope this has helped. If you have any other questions, please call us at 1-480-833-1363, or E-mail us at customerservice@futons.net
